People at the airport noticed a soldier lying on the cold ground and a German Shepherd sitting next to him barking at passersby: people were horrified when they realized the reason for the dog’s strange behavior.

That morning the airport was crowded: people were in a hurry, queuing for coffee, some were just sitting by the windows and watching the planes take off.

Everything was proceeding normally until people started stopping in one of the alleys. Some initially thought they were recording a video, others thought something serious had happened.

On the floor, right on the cold tiles, lay a young man in military uniform. His face was pale and his eyes closed. Sitting next to him was a German shepherd. Large, sturdy, with a wary gaze. She remained motionless, but watched everyone who passed by attentively. As soon as anyone approached, she reared up and began to growl. She didn’t rush, but made it clear: “Don’t come any closer.”

People looked at each other and someone whispered:

— Are you feeling ill?

—Are you breathing?

—Maybe we should call an ambulance?

The guards approached quickly, but the dog also greeted them with a serious look and a loud warning bark. The crowd was already tense; many thought the soldier had lost consciousness and that his faithful dog was not letting anyone approach.

And then, one of the passersby, a young man, approached with the intention of looking at the soldier’s face—perhaps just to make sure he was breathing—and the dog barked loudly and bravely. And suddenly, right in the middle of that tense moment, the soldier opened his eyes. And then everyone understood the reason for the dog’s strange behavior.

The soldier calmly looked at the dog, then at the people, stood up, and yawned. The crowd literally froze.

“Everything’s fine,” he said, smiling somewhat embarrassedly. “I’m just tired. It was a long trip, I barely slept. We’ve slept worse in the countryside. At least the ground is level here.”

It turned out he had simply lain down for a short nap, and his dog had been guarding his sleep the whole time, making sure no one disturbed him, touched him, or stole anything from him.

The tension in the crowd immediately dissipated. Someone chuckled, someone said jokingly:

– What a security guard you have there, sir.

The guards, after ensuring that everything was okay, insisted that he get up and go to the waiting room. A member of the medical staff, who was already on standby, took his pulse and respiratory rate; everything was normal.

The people around him, initially alarmed, now showed concern: “It’s good that nothing serious happened,” “What a smart dog, a true protector.”

The soldier stood up, thanked the people, and walked calmly away with the shepherd toward the waiting room. The passengers, seeing all this, commented for a long time on how intelligent and loyal the dog was.
