This Friday, August 30, Javier Acosta, the Millonarios fan who requested euthanasia, passed away after five years battling a bacteria he contracted in a swimming pool .
Through a video he recorded himself, he announced the news and said goodbye to his friends, causing great shock and solidarity in his native Colombia.
“My name is Javier Acosta, I’m a Millonarios fan, and yesterday (August 29th) I made a decision for my life, and today I’m saying goodbye to my friends and family in a big way. Long live life, guys. Enjoy every moment with your friends, with your buddies. Don’t wait until a friend is killed to say, ‘Hey man, I love you,’ don’t wait until a buddy is killed to bring them flowers.”
Acosta was admitted to the San Ignacio Hospital in Bogotá , from where he was transferred to another location for the procedure. This Friday, dozens of fans and supporters of the capital city team gathered at the hospital entrance to say goodbye and accompany him during the procedure.
Next, an official from San Ignacio read a statement outside the medical center, where Javier Acosta’s last wish was fulfilled.
” I give thanks to life, to death, to all the blows . I give thanks to all the obstacles I had to overcome to get here. I give thanks to this illness because I learned to value my family, because I learned to forgive my family, because I learned to forgive those who hurt me.”
Disease if curable
As he recounted in a social media broadcast, several years ago he suffered a traffic accident that left him in a wheelchair. Later, during an outing in Melgar, he contracted a bacterial infection that led to osteomyelitis.
After five years battling the disease , the treatments proved ineffective, and the cancer began to spread to her head. As a result, she was also unable to walk and ultimately decided that she preferred euthanasia to living in a hospital waiting for the cancer to end her life.
